299P/Catalina-PanSTARRS (0299P)

Type: Periodic Perihelion date: 30 April 2024 Perihelion distance (q): 3.2 Aphelion distance (Q) : 5.6 Period (years): 9.2 Eccentricity (e): 0.28 Inclination (i): 10.5 JPL orbit diagram COBS lightcurve Atlas 299P/Catalina-PanSTARRS = 2005 EL284 = 2014 D2 An 18th magnitude comet was discovered by the Catalina Sky Survey and by PanSTARRS in images taken on 27 February. The comet appeared about a magnitude fainter in the PanSTARRS images. Pre-discovery images were found in PanSTARRS data from January and December 2013, and January and February 2014. When the orbit improved the comet was linked to asteroid 2005 EL284 observed by LONEOS and LINEAR in March 2005 and by the Siding Spring Survey in July 2005.
