Fabrizio Bernardi discovered this comet on 1 November 2005 in images taken with
the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (Mauna Kea, Hawaii, USA). The comet
showed a very faint tail extending as much as 12" in about PA 290 deg. Images
obtained by H. Hsieh on 4 November with the 224-cm reflector at Mauna Kea also
show the tail.
The comet was recovered in 2012 at magnitude 24 by David J. Tholen's team using
the 8.2-m Suburu Telescope on Mauna Kea (Hawaii, USA).
