The comet was discovered by Shoemaker on 26 September 1984 (D/1984 W1) and
rediscovered independently by F. Shelly and R. Huber, MIT Lincoln Laboratory
(LINEAR) on 27 September 2000 (C/2000 S2). S. Nakano, Sumoto, subsequently ,
then identified that the two objects are the same comet.
