Herschel 78 and Caldwell 6 (North Up, East Left)
Herschel 78, also known as NGC 6543, Caldwell 6 and the "Cat's Eye Nebula", is a planeary nebula in the constellation of Draco.  It lies at a distance of ~3,600 light-years.  This image comprises 5 x Ha, OIII and SII (all 90 seconds each), 0.5m f/2.9 ASA Astrograph with FLI ML3200 camera at an altitude of 50 degrees on 26 June 2017. The first image uses the Hubble Space Telescope pallette, SII mapped to red, Ha to green and OIII to blue.  The second image uses the Canada France Hawaii Telescope pallette, Ha mapped to red, OIII to green and SII to blue.  The third image is the OIII image, which best brings out the surrounding halo.  The inner "Cat's Eye", which is compact and bright and overexposed in these images. The fields of view of the images are 18’ x 12’.
