A 19th magnitude object was discovered in images taken with the 0.5m Schmidt at Mauna Loa on 6 October 2019 by the ATLAS (Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System) team. There were pre-discovery PanSTARRS 1 and 2 images from January. The comet is at perihelion at 5.9 au in March 2021 and is in a retrograde orbit.
