228P = 2001 YX127 = 2009 U2 An apparently asteroidal object of 20th mag discovered by LINEAR on 17 December 2001 and designated 2001 YX_127 has been found to have a broad, fan-shaped extension in p.a. 100 deg on CCD images obtained on 14 February 2002 by T. B. Spahr with the 1.2-m reflector at Mount Hopkins. Co-added CCD R-band images taken at about the same time by C. W. Hergenrother with the Catalina 1.54-m reflector show a 7" coma and a broad tail 8" long in p.a. 100 deg. Jim Scotti recovered P/2001 YX127 with the 1.8-m Spacewatch telescope at Kitt Peak on 18 October 2009, noting that it was very faintly diffuse with a short tail.
